The Phoenix
1.5 is a programmable infrared signaling beacon, P/N 902212 NSN: 5855-01-396-8734 which is powered by one nine
volt battery. The Phoenix delivers a powerful infrared flash which can only be seen with night vision equipment such
as the AN/PVS-7 B/D, AN/PVS-14 and AN/AVS-9 at distances of over five miles and can also be seen through clothing and underwater.
The Phoenix has a six second memory which can be programmed to flash in any sequence
which the end user inputs (such as a Morse type code). This is accomplished by shorting two pins located on top of the Phoenix.
Removal of the battery deletes any stored codes and miniature indicator lights allow the end user to visually verify the correct
input of his assigned code or flash sequence.
The Phoenix has proven
itself useful in both Combat and Covert operations, some of which include: identifying personnel and friendly forces, marking
vehicles and convoys, outlining safe pathways, trails or installations.
